Agistri

Escape to Agistri - a serene Greek paradise with stunning beaches and rich history.

Nestled in the heart of the Argosaronikos Gulf lies Agistri, a tranquil islet that boasts lush greenery and a serene ambiance. Among the cluster of Argosaronikos islands, Agistri is the smallest, located just 22 nautical miles away from Piraeus and a mere 4 nautical miles from Aegina. In ancient times, this picturesque paradise was known as Kekryfalia.

Agistri welcomes travelers with open arms, offering pristine blue waters caressing secluded beaches, dense pine forests embracing the idyllic coastline, and a refreshing lack of tourist crowds. It’s an invitation to experience a peaceful and delightful holiday.

Two natural harbors grace Agistri’s shores: Skala harbor and Megalochori harbor. Ferries from Piraeus dock at the former, while both are linked to Aegina.

Megalochori, distinct from Mylos, serves as the island’s capital and, in antiquity, was a crucial naval base and supply depot. Today, it entices visitors with its stunning sandy beaches, charming cobblestone streets, and architecturally captivating houses that exude island charm.

Skala, with its sandy beaches, is an entirely tourist-centric settlement.

The enchanting pine-clad beauty of Limenaria will captivate any visitor. Thanks to submerged rocks beneath the sea’s surface, this area is ideal for underwater fishing.

Kantouni, Agistri’s oldest settlement, offers a marvelous landscape where lush pine trees harmonize perfectly with the azure sea.

Agistri offers an array of picturesque beaches for sun and sea enthusiasts. Don’t miss the captivating Halikiada beach with its smooth pebbles and crystal-clear waters, accessible via a heavenly path through the pines. Also, find serenity at the exotic Aponisos beach, where you can unwind amidst a tranquil landscape.

For history buffs, Aponisos, Megaritissa, and Kontari hold archaeological significance. The Intellectual Centre of Megalochori showcases various archaeological finds, and to the west, beneath the sea’s surface, lie sunken antiquities waiting to be explored.

Discover Agistri’s spiritual side by visiting the churches of Zoodohos Pigi and Agioi Pantes in Megalochori, Agioi Anargyroi in Skala, Agia Barbara in Polemi, and Agia Kyriaki and Agios Nikolaos in Limenaria.

For the adventurous, a refreshing trek to the small church of Panagia in Metochi rewards you with cool, invigorating air and breathtaking vistas. To explore the island, choose from taxis, and a small 12-seater bus, or consider renting a bicycle, motorbike, or car.

Agistri offers a plethora of accommodation options, including hotels, apartments, studios, and rooms. While on the island, don’t miss the open-air cinema, the vibrant nightlife in clubs and bars, and the opportunity to engage in various water sports. Agistri promises a memorable and fulfilling getaway for all who seek its natural beauty and tranquil charm.
