Astypalaia

Explore the beauty of Astypalaia, sandy beaches, and ancient ruins, experiencing the unique blend of Cycladic and Dodecanese charm.

Astypalaia, nestled within the picturesque Dodecanese archipelago, holds a special allure for Greek travelers, captivating them with its romantic charm. Divided into two smaller islets, this island boasts stunning sandy beaches, intriguing caves, and meticulously preserved ancient relics.

Despite its membership in the Dodecanese, Astypalaia exudes a Cycladic ambiance, characterized by its rugged terrain and myriad churches peppering the landscape.

A must-see is the island’s capital, Chora, adorned with whitewashed dwellings and crowned by a majestic Venetian fortress. Wander through its narrow lanes, soak in the charm, and don’t miss the spectacle of Maltezana’s bustling port, particularly in the early evening when fishermen return with their fresh catch.

Immerse yourself in the island’s religious heritage with visits to churches like Panagias (Virgin Mary), Saint George, and the venerable Panagia Portaitissa, a testament to Astypalaia’s rich history. Explore the verdant oasis of Livadi, replete with vineyards and citrus groves, and unwind on the shores of Tzanaki Beach or embark on a serene caique excursion to the enchanting Vathy Lagoon.

Astypalaia boasts many renowned beaches, including Pera Gialos, Livadi, and Agios Konstantinos, each offering its unique charm. Ferry connections extend from Astypalaia to neighboring islands, linking travelers to destinations like Kalymnos, Rhodes, Mykonos, and beyond, facilitating further exploration of the Aegean’s splendor.
