Arkoi

Nestled among the Dodecanese islands, Arkoi stands out as a tranquil haven, offering serene seclusion for those seeking relaxation.

Arkoi, the largest among these rocky islets north of Lipsi, offers a serene escape in the Dodecanese. Ideal for tranquility seekers!

Island Population and Economy

The island’s modest population is centered around the main harbor, with scattered residences dotting the higher terrain. Economic activities primarily revolve around fishing, goat herding, and managing tavernas due to the absence of a significant capital.

Geography and Wildlife

Characterized by arid, stony landscapes adorned with sparse olive trees and sturdy shrubs, Arkoi hosts primarily domesticated animals like goats and donkeys, occasionally glimpsed alongside herons. Surprisingly, the island’s surrounding bays boast rich marine life, including various grouper and nudibranch species.

Landmarks and Attractions

Arkoi offers mesmerizing landmarks, such as the hilltop ruins of an acropolis offering stunning Aegean Sea sunsets. Tiganakia, the premier beach, may be small and rocky but provides clear waters and a scenic view of nearby islets, attracting crowds during peak summer. Other intriguing attractions include the ‘Italian jail‘ from World War II and a hidden cave with remarkable formations amidst olive trees and bushes.

Neighboring Islands and Leisure Activities

Marathi, the nearest inhabited island, contrasts with the larger populations found on Lipsi and Patmos. Visitors can explore picturesque beaches for leisurely swims or opt for boat tours around the island. Discover the serene beauty of Marathi and Marathonisi islands, both offering sandy beaches for a peaceful getaway.
