The Greek School of Plato for decades now enjoys a high rate of success in the Ellinomatheia exams. A great opportunity for the students to receive recognition for the mastery of the Modern Greek language (Ellinomatheia Certification). The Ellinomatheia Certification is recognized by universities in Greece, European countries and USA. In some instances, scoring high in Ellinomatheia can equal eight to ten undergraduate college credits.
For the students that wish to take this challenge there are experienced teachers, whose efforts for a systematic preparation is the secret behind the high success rates of our students.
Although not a New York State exam, it is considered for Regents credits in foreign language studies for qualified students of public and nonpublic schools. It is widely accepted by the public schools in the State of New York.
The Greek School of Plato offers preparatory sessions to its students taking the Greek Regents for the recognition of high school credit and fluency in the Greek language.
Rooted in the ancient times, Greek traditional dances are an important part of Hellenic culture, a living practice that reinforces our identity and constitutes an integral part of our school program. Our experienced and passionate instructors teach our Platonakia to dance and enjoy traditional dances, a social experience that has been handed down from generation to generation. At the end of each school year all our students come together in the Greek dance show and make their families, the community and their teachers deep proud and happy.
The students and alumni of our 60-member strong band are the proud PLATONAKIA who march down 5th Avenue every year at the Annual Greek Independence Day Parade. We have had the honor of being chosen out of all of the Greek Schools in the tri-state area to escort the Evzones (Elite Greek National Guard) for the last five years and to open the parade for decades now. It has been said that the passion of our band gives goosebumps to all during the parade, but the unforgettable memories of our students accompany them for the rest of their lives.
We have created online classes to deliver and communicate the rich Greek School of Plato education remotely. From across the United States, to the rest of the world, a live teacher uses interactive video software, to educate students of all ages in small group instruction. Classes meet once a week for an hour. Classes are $80/student/month. Class times and days vary depending on the students and schedule changes are made to better suit the families and teacher availability. If a parent chooses to have more time for their children, arrangements can be made.
