The Greek School of Plato is a 501(c) (3) organization that provides students from Pre-K to 9th grade an opportunity to explore the richness of the Greek language, history, and culture with second, third, and continuing generations of Greek Americans.

Key Responsibilities

Seeking  Pre-School Lead Teachers and Teacher Assistants

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safety of each child enrolled in the class, whether in the classroom, on the playground, or in common areas, through constant supervision.
  • Incorporate developmentally appropriate and best practice strategies within the classroom to ensure a rich, meaningful curriculum and instruction.
  • Adhere to best practices as outlined through the Creative Curriculum or be familiar with Pre-K for All units of study, with a clear understanding of expected classroom routines, experiences, and learning centers.
  • Have positive interactions with each child daily during circle time, centers, snacks, lunchtime, playground, free play, etc., to create a positive learning environment.
  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate classroom lesson plans and practices that support the physical, emotional, social, and cognitive needs of young children.
  • Actively interact with children, demonstrating patience and warmth in all interactions.
  • Actively engage with families to ensure parents/caregivers are knowledgeable about the child’s program. Promote and provide frequent opportunities for family engagement,
  • Implement a developmentally appropriate daily schedule, including the incorporation of transitions and age-appropriate activities.
  • Create a safe, warm, and nurturing environment for students and staff that is conducive to learning.
  • Create a welcoming, engaging classroom space for young children to learn, play, and grow.
  • Use assessment methodology and maintain updated student profiles.
  • Maintain a portfolio for each child.
  • Seek and implement feedback to elevate professional performance.
  • Knowledge of Greek Preferred.

Including:

Integrate and respond to the knowledge of children, child development, and content across the domains of learning to plan and adapt instruction, aligned to the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework (ELOF) and the New York State Pre-K Early Learning Standards.

Qualifications

Lead Teacher Qualifications:

NYS Teaching Certification B-2 or currently pursuing NYS Teacher certification in B-2 or Equivalent. Initial Certification accepted.
CPR and First Aid Certification preferred.
Be knowledgeable of the Minimum Standard Requirements of Child Care required by Article 47 and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene

Teacher Assistant/Aide Qualifications:
High School diploma (or equivalent) is required.
Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Preferred.
Previous experience working in daycare, preschool, or childcare settings with infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children is preferred.
Coursework in early childhood education and child development is preferred.
