The Greek School of Plato is a 501(c) (3) organization that provides students from Pre-K to 9th grade an opportunity to explore the richness of the Greek language, history, and culture with second, third, and continuing generations of Greek Americans.

Plato edifies our students, growing their appreciation of Greek heritage. We engage in our work by leveraging a powerful support system comprised of trained teaching staff, volunteers, parents, and friends as well as the community’s youth. Plato seeks to instill values of democracy and leadership by engaging its current students and alumni in service to their community, keeping the spirit of service, democracy, and civic engagement alive. Our school has prepared and will continue to prepare students to carry forward the spirit of Hellenism in New York.

We currently have a position available for a Greek School Secretary in Brooklyn, NY.

Job Description

We are looking for an organized, detail-oriented School Secretary to join our team. Our School Secretary will provide administrative support to the school staff and faculty, as well as provide assistance with student services, and will be the first point of contact for students, parents, and visitors. The successful candidate will have excellent organizational skills, customer service experience, and a strong command of the Greek language.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support to the school staff and faculty
  • Assist in student services such as scheduling classes, registering students, and providing information about campus resources
  • Monitor student attendance and report any absences or tardiness
  • Create and maintain student records
  • Answer incoming calls and respond to inquiries in a professional manner
  • Ensure all office supplies are stocked and ordered when needed
  • Address any school updates to the website & social media manager
  • Greet visitors and direct them to the appropriate office or individual
  • Prepare documents such as letters, memos, reports, course materials, forms, etc.
  • Handle mail distribution throughout the school
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or other school administrators

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required;
  • Previous experience as a secretary or administrative assistant in an educational setting preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Minimum of two years of experience
  • Excellent knowledge of the Greek language (spoken and written Modern Greek)
  • Excellent knowledge of the English language too (spoken and written)
