The candidate of level A1 (8-12) will learn to communicate using simple language, exchanging information about himself/herself and his/her relatives (family, friends, classmates), to meet daily needs (simple transactions in the grocery, the market, etc.), he/she will also learn to understand short announcements and follow simple instructions from his/her parents and teachers.
Ο υποψήφιος του επιπέδου Α1(8-12) θα μάθει να επικοινωνεί χρησιμοποιώντας απλή γλώσσα, ανταλλάσσοντας πληροφορίες για τον εαυτό του και τους οικείους του (οικογένεια, φίλους, συμμαθητές), να ανταποκρίνεται σε καθημερινές ανάγκες (απλές συναλλαγές στο παντοπωλείο, στην αγορά κτλ), επίσης θα μάθει να καταλαβαίνει σύντομες ανακοινώσεις και να ακολουθεί απλές οδηγίες των γονιών και των δασκάλων του.
The A1 level candidate will learn to understand and use everyday expressions aimed at meeting specific needs. He/she will learn to converse with others and how to introduce himself/herself and answer questions about personal information.
Ο υποψήφιος του επιπέδου Α1 θα μάθει να κατανοεί και να χρησιμοποιεί καθημερινές εκφράσεις που έχουν στόχο την εξυπηρέτηση συγκεκριμένων αναγκών. Θα μάθει να συστήνει άλλους και να συστήνεται και να απαντά σε ερωτήσεις που αφορούν προσωπικά στοιχεία.
At this level the candidate will learn to have the basic communication skills, for example, for example, to be able to use the Greek language in spoken and written language, formal or friendly, to respond to daily needs and communication situations.
Σ’ αυτό το επίπεδο ο υποψήφιος θα μάθει να έχει τη βασική επικοινωνιακή ικανότητα, δηλαδή να μπορεί να χρησιμοποιεί την ελληνική γλώσσα στον προφορικό και στον γραπτό λόγο, τυπικό ή φιλικό, για να ανταποκρίνεται σε καθημερινές ανάγκες και καταστάσεις επικοινωνίας.
The candidate will learn to respond linguistically to situations of direct daily transactions. He/she will also learn to know the relevant social habits, linguistic (to address interlocutors, to speak, to choose the degree of formality or intimacy) and non-linguistic (to know the ways of physical contact, handshake, gestures).
Ο υποψήφιος θα μάθει να ανταποκρίνεται γλωσσικά σε καταστάσεις άμεσων καθημερινών συναλλαγών. Θα μάθει ακόμα να γνωρίζει τις σχετικές κοινωνικές συνήθειες, γλωσσικές (να απευθύνεται σε συνομιλητές, να παίρνει τον λόγο, να επιλέγει το βαθμό επισημότητας ή οικειότητας) και μη γλωσσικές (να γνωρίζει τους τρόπους φυσικής επαφής, χειραψία, χειρονομίες).
The candidate will learn to use the Greek language with ease and spontaneity, so that communication is done without pressure and difficulty. He/she will learn to produce speech with clarity and detail in a wide range of subjects. He/she will become acquainted with basic features of modern Greek culture and will learn to distinguish the main socio-cultural differences that exist between his own society and mentality and that of the natural speakers of the Greek language.
Ο υποψήφιος θα μάθει να χρησιμοποιεί την ελληνική γλώσσα με ευχέρεια και αυθορμητισμό, έτσι ώστε η επικοινωνία να γίνεται χωρίς πίεση και δυσκολία. Θα μάθει να παράγει λόγο με σαφήνεια και λεπτομέρεια σε ένα ευρύ πεδίο θεμάτων. Θα εξοικειωθεί με βασικά χαρακτηριστικά του σύγχρονου ελληνικού πολιτισμού και θα μάθει να ξεχωρίζει τις κυριότερες κοινωνικοπολιτισμικές διαφορές που υπάρχουν ανάμεσα στη δική του κοινωνία και νοοτροπία και αυτή των φυσικών ομιλητών της ελληνικής γλώσσας.
The candidate will acquire the ability to understand and use the Greek language to such an extent that he/she can respond linguistically to various situations either as a visitor or as a temporary resident in Greece or in areas where the Greek language is used as a means of communication (Cyprus, Greek communities in other countries).
In particular, the candidate will learn to understand a wide range of oral and written texts. He/she will also develop the ability to express himself/herself spontaneously, without having to spend time searching for the right expressions. He/she will practice using language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes.
Ο υποψήφιος θα αποκτήσει την ικανότητα να κατανοεί και να χρησιμοποιεί την ελληνική γλώσσα σε τέτοιο βαθμό, ώστε να μπορεί να ανταποκρίνεται γλωσσικά σε διάφορες καταστάσεις είτε ως επισκέπτης είτε ως προσωρινός κάτοικος στην Ελλάδα ή σε περιοχές όπου χρησιμοποιείται η ελληνική γλώσσα ως μέσω επικοινωνίας (Κύπρος, ελληνικές κοινότητες σε άλλες χώρες).
Ειδικότερα, ο υποψήφιος θα μάθει να κατανοεί ένα ευρύ φάσμα κειμένων προφορικού και γραπτού λόγου. Επίσης, θα αναπτύξει την ικανότητα να εκφράζεται αυθόρμητα, χωρίς να χρειάζεται χρόνο για την αναζήτηση των σωστών εκφράσεων. Θα ασκηθεί να χρησιμοποιεί τη γλώσσα ευέλικτα και αποτελεσματικά για κοινωνικούς , ακαδημαϊκούς και επαγγελματικούς σκοπούς.
The candidate at this level will be trained to meet the communication needs of any occasion. He/she will practice being able to easily understand almost everything he/she hears and reads. He/she will learn to handle all sources of oral or written information with comfort and reliability.

Planning Your Ellinomatheia Preparation
Ellinomatheia preparation begins with a clear picture of the learner’s current Greek. Read the level descriptions above and consider which everyday situations already feel comfortable. Speaking with family, following written instructions, and understanding a recording can call on different skills. Share those differences with the school when discussing Ellinomatheia classes; they provide more useful context than choosing a level by age alone.
The Ellinomatheia descriptions cover A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2, with a separate A1 description for children aged 8–12. Review both the English and Greek explanations where helpful. Ellinomatheia study can involve listening, reading, speaking, and writing, so leave time for each skill rather than concentrating only on vocabulary. Keep short notes about unfamiliar expressions and return to them in later practice.
Ellinomatheia Resources and Enrollment Questions
Use the Centre for the Greek Language portal for dictionaries and Greek language learning resources. Ask the school which materials fit your intended Ellinomatheia level. A resource can support regular study without replacing guidance about course placement or current examination arrangements.
